With the Alameda Museum, including the gift shop and the Meyers House, closed for visitors, the Board has been trying to find a way to make it possible for our community to visit, in a way that’s safe for both our visitors and our volunteers.
And the result is a pop-up window exhibition, running from today to August 23, at the Alameda Museum, at 2324 Alameda Ave:
An Assemblage of Hats;
an annotated selection of the Museum’s Hat collection.
Normally, these items, although not particularly valuable by themselves, are too susceptible to accidental damage (as well as to unexplained disappearances) to display in the museum, but with no one being able to touch, this is now not an issue.
To make the exhibition even more touch-free, there is a matching webpage on our museum website (see under Alameda Museum – Temporary Exhibitions https://alamedamuseum.org/temporary-exhibitions/assemblage-of-hats). Here you will find more information than is possible in the captions in the window and it even includes a Kids’ Quiz, for those parents who are at their wits end about what to do with the kids after months of Shelter-in-Place and Social Bubbles.
We – the Board of Directors of the Alameda Museum – hope that you will find this exhibition worth a walk-by, or internet-browse.
(If doing a walk-by, please keep distance from other museum-window-watchers or passers-by, and wear a mask.)
Feedback or (we hope) notes of appreciation can be directed to [email protected], or the museum facebook page.
