Alameda Museum Lectures 2010
• Postponed to September 9th! (previously scheduled for Thursday August 26, 2010): New Deal public works agencies put thousands of men and women to work during the Great Depression. These projects transformed East Bay cities within less than a decade, providing us with schools, parks and recreational facilities, and vital infrastructure from which we all continue to benefit. The West End branch Library and the Electrical Substation at 1828 Grand Street were two of several New Deal projects in Alameda. Author-historian Gray Brechin will show what California’s Living New Deal Project—partially supported by U.C. Berkeley Institute for Research on Labor and Employment—has discovered so far. Dr. Brechin is an historical geographer, a frequent radio and television guest, and a popular public speaker. He is currently a visiting scholar in the U.C. Berkeley Department of Geography and founder and project scholar of California’s Living New Deal Project. His talk is at 7:00 p.m. Thursday September 9 at the Alameda Museum, 2324 Alameda Avenue near Park Street. Underwritten by Janelle Spatz, Realtor, Bayside Real Estate.
